Engineering unites the “S” and “T” of STEM, provides a platform for the applications and connections highlighted in the NGSS, and focusses on 21st century skills. It can be a versatile, fun, and engaging part of your science and math classes. This workshop will first provide a brief introduction to what engineering in the classroom looks like and how you can begin to transform some science activities and labs into engineering design opportunities. Then we will take a more in-depth “tour” of some the best and most “teacher friendly” engineering resources available on the web. This workshop is intended for middle and high school science teachers.
Ann Kaiser has spent her 30+ year career equally divided between the worlds of engineering and education. She was a 2012-13 Fulbright Distinguished Teacher, researching STEM in Singapore, and has spoken nationally and internationally about techniques for and the advantages of including Engineering in K-12 education. Most recently she spoke about using engineering to highlight global issues as a Top Overseas Teacher in Singapore and will be the featured keynote speaker at the 2015 Danish National Science Teachers Conference. As CEO of ProjectEngin LLC, Ann currently provides STEM Education consulting services and works to incorporate engineering into science and math curriculum.
