Writing in Science: Promoting Conceptual Understanding, Strengthening Scientific Thinking and
Engaging in Scientific Practices

Betsy Rupp Fulwiler, the author of Writing in Science and Writing in Science in Action, will lead a full day professional development opportunity around the key elements of her very successful approach.

Participants will watch classroom videos, engage in small group discussions and reflect on student work as they explore, first hand, the power of scaffolding, modeling and providing prescriptive feedback to students. RITES and GEMS-Net invite you to meet Betsy and join in the growing number of RI middle and high school teachers who foster the development of their students as scientific thinkers by embracing these best practices in their classrooms.

RITES and GEMS-Net have partnered to provide RI science teachers with this opportunity to learn from the author's expertise as well as connect with other science teachers. Please contact Amber at agilfert@ritesproject.net to register or call 874-4071.

The event will be held in the Ballroom in the Memorial Union Building on the URI Campus from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm
